The tread pattern must be clearly visible and have a depth of not less than 1mm across the width and circumference of the tyre.

Sidewalls should not have lumps or bulges or deep cuts. Inner cords should not be visible. The tyre should not be in such a state of disrepair or condition (e.g. cuts longer than 25mm or 10% of the tyre width) that it may cause damage to the road or is likely to be a danger.

Buses, midi-buses and mini-buses operating with a licence issued by the Department of Transport must be fitted with commercial steel radial-ply tyres, and the steerable wheels must be fitted with anti-burst stabilisers.
